Super Healthy 9 Grain Oatmeal!

I love this recipe because it's super cheap and easy to make and it tastes amazing! I don't use sugar to sweeten it, which makes it even more healthy. I sweeten with fruits and cinnamon or pumpkin spice if I'm feeling festive. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to make. The included food groups presented are grains, fruits, and dairy. (If you wanted to add a meat such as turkey bacon or something you could, but I honestly get way too full to add anything else to the meal.) This meal would provide so much nutritional value to a college student, because it provides things that give you energy and keep you full for long periods of time, so your mind isn't focused on being hungry and you can concentrate on other things. This would be considered a healthy recipe because of its whole ingredients and the fact that the only sugar in it is in the fruits.

What you'll need:

1 cup of 9 grain oats (you can buy it in bulk from Good Earth for like $5)
1/2 cup of diced apple or pears
2 tbsp. cinnamon or pumpkin spice
1 cup water
1/4 cup skim milk (optional) (I use skim, but obviously 1% would be okay, or you could even use almond milk)
2 tbsp. low fat vanilla yogurt (optional)

Directions:

You combine the oats, water, and spice into a microwave-safe bowl and cook it for 2 minutes. As soon as it's done cooking, you can pour the skim milk over the top if desired, or another alternative would be to put a dollop (or about 2 tbsp) of low fat vanilla yogurt on top, along with your fruit of choice. (I prefer apples or pears, but you can put a reasonable amount of any fruit with this oatmeal.)

I decided to make this super healthy nine grain oatmeal because I learned that in my diet analysis paper that I am a little low on the grains and the fruit. In fact I don’t eat enough fruit, so when I saw that you could put any fruit in the oatmeal I took full advantage of it. I put in strawberries, apples, and chopped up bananas, but I mixed in the cinnamon before and that tasted so good. This recipe tasted SO good. It was a phenomenal recipe that I will definitely be cooking again. The taste was amazing. You have a hint of sweetness but not too much. It is perfect for breakfast and it gave me energy throughout the day! It does have some sugar in it from the fruit that I used so that is a bit of a drawback, but the fruit is also super healthy along with the grains. This meal was also super easy to prepare. It took me maybe 10 minutes if that. Most of that was cutting up the fruit! It is a great recipe that I will definitely recommend to anyone.

  2. I decided to go with the oatmeal that Tia posted. The reason I made this is because I usually make smoothies in the morning, and they are great, but I don’t get any grains in that meal. I’m also lactose intolerant, so I’ve always just avoided dairy. When I made this recipe I did use almond milk instead of skim milk. I really enjoyed this oatmeal, especially how quick it is to make, it is definitely one that I will be making again.

After reviewing my diet analysis paper, I have determined that I lack a lot of fruit and grain in my diet. As described in my paper, it is very bad to lack certain vitamins and minerals that come from fruits and grains. The variety in grains from this recipe is nice and the addition of fruit really helps me fulfill my needs. I enjoyed how easy the recipe is. I was able to pick and choose fruit for the meal which is nice for variety of taste. It was easy to make and tastes really good. I will defiantly make this recipe again. Especially because I am pretty bad at eating breakfast.

  4. I chose to go with Tia's 9-Grain Oatmeal. Based on my diet analysis paper, I lacked the most in fiber in my diet. Because fiber is such an essential nutrient, I knew it would be important to incorporate this into my meals on a daily basis. Oatmeal is a great way to do that, especially since it's an easy meal to make. This 9-grain Oatmeal from Tia is also very simple and extremely delicious! Since I had a great time making it and I loved its flavor, I can see myself eating this a lot more often and my body can get the fiber it needs.
