Breakfast smoothie

This is a super easy breakfast smoothie or just a good snack for any time of the day. I often eat it after a good morning run or as a healthy dessert to wind down the day. My dad often surprises me and will leave one on my night stand for when I wake up so they are good for any time of the day!

Taste: Delicious! It is mainly fruit and the bananas add a lot of sweetness to it. No added sugar. The protein powder does make the texture a little different than just a regular smoothie but it's not a bad thing in my book!

Ease of Preparation: On a scale from one to easy, it's top of the charts. It only takes a few minutes to blend up and pour into a tall glass or a water bottle for the go! I frequently take this on the road with me. It is soft enough that I can just drink it. It's easy to make it more or less firm depending on how much milk you choose to put in.

Ingredients:
1 Peach
1 1/2 C Raspberries
2 small Bananas
1 1/2 C Milk (or to desired consistency)
1 scoop Protein Powder (optional)
3/4 C Spinach/kale (optional; not added in this picture because it turns it a nasty color)

Directions: Put all ingredients in blender, blend till smooth.
Serves 4 people
Note: all of my fruit was frozen. If fresh fruit is used, add ice until it is the consistency you desire.

Specific Nutritional Value per Glass:

Estimated Recommended Daily Allowance:

Total Carbohydrates 8%
Fiber 16.25%
Vitamin A 5%
Vitamin C 26.5%
Calcium 8.25%
Iron 2.4%

Why It's Nutritious: In just one glass of this smoothie it has quite a bit of Vitamin C which boosts your immune system and keeps the colds away. It has low sodium and cholesterol which a lot of Americans have too big of an intake of. The fiber is a good healthy level. With the added protein and veggies it keeps your mind running and ready to take on the tasks at hand. Most things in your body are made up of protein so in order to keep your body functioning properly that is an essential part of a healthy diet.

A down side of this recipe is that even though it is perfect for me for breakfast, I am always ready to eat by lunch. I wouldn't say that I am hungry when lunch comes around but there is no late lunch when you only have the smoothie without the two optional ingredients.

What Else to Eat: Without adding the protein powder and the spinach/kale I like to have eggs with spinach/kale and bell peppers diced up in them. I also enjoy a good slice of wheat toast. With all of these things for breakfast you are ready to hit the books, the office, or wherever you may be going. I have definitely found that having a good breakfast makes a big difference in my performance throughout the day.

  1. I decided to pick this recipe because as a college student on the go I don’t always get the vitamins and nutrients that I need for the day. I also love looking for recipes that are fast and easy, and this recipe did that! My diet often lacks a good source of protein especially in the morning, which is one reason why I choose this recipe. This recipe is a great source of Vitamin C which is important to help maintain a healthy immune system. The protein added in this smoothie was great to help give me a boost with my busy schedule.
If you are looking for a good smoothie this one if definitely one to try! Another plus is that it is so easy to make! So if you have a busy schedule and are always on the go this is great because it only takes a few minutes. Some health benefits are the Vitamin C, which is great for the immune system. The smoothie is also low in sodium and a good source of fiber. The protein power and kale in the smoothie give it even more benefits, for example giving you a boost of energy. A drawback to this recipe that I found was the same to what Nicole said which is that it is not very filling especially when the protein isn’t added. I will definitely be making this recipe again; it was easy, fast, tasty, and most importantly nutritious.
